Dominique Buckland's approach to dressage training goes beyond technical proficiency in the arena; it revolves around fostering a deep and meaningful partnership between horse and rider. Her philosophy is rooted in principles of trust, empathy, and understanding, ensuring that the journey of training is as enriching and enjoyable as the achievements in competition.

Dominique discovered her love for riding at a young age, leading her to train with Leslie Reid and develop a deep appreciation for dressage. Throughout her career, she has achieved numerous accolades, including making both short and long-lists for the Canadian team on multiple horses. Notably, she secured fifth place in the 2007 Pan American trials with Matisse and repeated this in 2011 with Utango. Her pursuit of excellence took her across North America and Europe, competing in the Grand Prix for eight years and training under esteemed mentors like Arnd Erben and Leida Collins Strijk. Dominique also enjoys developing young horses, nurturing their potential to become future stars in dressage.

Recognizing that every partnership is unique, Dominique tailors her coaching to meet the specific needs and abilities of each horse and rider pair. Whether coaching beginners or seasoned competitors, her approach remains consistent in its emphasis on respect and compassion

Building Partnerships

Helping Riders

Dominique’s philosophy is training with compassion for both horses and riders so that they can work through challenges and grow together.

Her extensive knowledge in equine stewardship and years of experience enables her to advise on best practices to help maintain your horse. She believes proper maintenance plans ensure our equine partners feel their best so that they can perform in a happy and healthy manner.

For clients in the competitive space, the addition of the Aqua Horse water treadmill on site offers an additional conditioning modality. The treadmill is an exceptional way to increase fitness or support rehabilitation which is great to enhance Dominique’s training programs.

In and outside of her work, Dominique is unfailingly calm, caring (for the welfare of the horse and rider), humble and upbeat. She doesn’t discriminate between an ordinary rider or someone with high potential – she gives everyone her utmost effort and attention. And perhaps most importantly, she doesn’t engage in unproductive/negative behaviours and is careful to only invite those into her orbit who share the same philosophy. She works hard to make her barn a welcoming environment where people work hard, enjoy each other’s company and have fun while on the property.
